[UI beta] Add ability to mask with smooth alpha, and invert the mask

GUI

The problem is that masks use alpha, sure, but only to the point where the value is 0, or 1 instead of floating point.

Also why aren't we able to invert the masks, so instead of constraining the image to a space, it would remove the masked area from the image.

Unity 5.3 is out and this feature still hasn't been implemented.

My current project would benefit greatly from invertible masks. I have a co-op platforming game with lighting done via overlaying darkness images in each room that can be faded in and out by lightswitches. I want to put a mask on my darkness canvas for each of the players to follow them around, providing a small viewport around each player so that both can see each other but currently there is no simple way to do this. If I simply invert the image, then the black area around the players will obscure each other viewports.

Agree. The mask with smooth alpha is very useful. And with anti-aliasing ofc. Invert the mask isn't need I think.

    I agree too.
The current Mask effect is ugly.

I agree that the mask should be invertable. Currently there isn't a good way to "cut a hole" in part of a UI element. For instance, I want to have an inventory screen with my 3D character behind it, and use a mask to make sure only the part of the character behind the character window is shown and the rest should be hidden behind UI.
