No Dependency on Unity Editor for Asset Store Download

Based on the forum/answers search on "Asset Store Download" it looks like I'm not alone. I purchased a texture set from the store, and when I went to download it I was informed that I'd need the Unity Editor to do so.

I use Linux for my main machines, so I tried using the Unity Editor on a Mac I have available. It must be too old as the editor wouldn't open at all. Next I tried a VirtualBox Windows 7 machine, and while I can see the Unity Editor, the downloaded file has an extension of "unitypackage".

I won't go more into the details, but all throughout this lengthy process I kept thinking in the back of my mind "Why did they make this so difficult to download what I just purchased?"

I have a Windows machine at home where I have setup the Unity Editor on there too. I'll try to import the asset into a blank project and then figure out how to export the textures.

Unity. Your revenue will probably increase if you make it easier for your customers to actually receive the product they buy. Right now I've spent $20 on something I can't actually get to.

    I totally agree 100%. I would add that it would be nice if I could just browse the Unity Asset Store, make purchases, and import assets directly through Unity Hub. The browser isn't tied to the Editor, and I can easily download and import assets without having to opening up a Unity project.

    From the new store after clicking 'Update' on an asset that I've added to 'My Assets' and manually added to a list so that I can even access it, all clicking 'Update' does it display a progress bar that says 'Downloaded' but at the end it doesn't do anything at all.

    It's not addd to my project, it's not in my Downloads directory, and nothing in the Udate/Download process has given me any clue where it is or how to add it to my project.

    After wasting even more time faffing about I saw a link to the 'Old Store'. I clicked on this, when to my list and found the assert and right next t it was a button 'Import'. Clicking on that added finally added the asset to my project.

    That was an hour and a half of my life that I won't get back.

    The process for downloading assets and referencing them from a project is ludicrous. I'm trying to start the Space Shooter tutorial. The Hub provides a starter project for this but the online instructions start from an empty project and I haven't found any way to save a tutorial project opened from the hub to a desired location, so I'm trying to create the project from scratch as descibed in the instructions.

    I searched for and found the assets in the asset store from my browser and clicked 'Add to my assets' and they now appear as if I have 'purchased' them. But if I open a Unity project and attempt to reference the assets from there they do not appear in my account.

    So I worked out that it appears that I have to manually create a list, and then add assets that I've already added to 'My Assets' in the store to the manually created list.

    Now I can see the asset I've added from within a Unity project, but instead of any option to download or install the asset I only have the option to 'Update' it, which makes no sense whatsoever as when I view the asset from my browser I have the option to 'Open in Unity'.

    This whole process is ridiculously badly thought out and implemented. I went through the entire set of starter tutorials in less than half the time it's taken me so far to work out how to add a free set of assets to a new project.

    Please improve this idiotic process.

    I have a different problem.

    Unity works for me 100, all right…

    Except for a small problem. Windows and my internet.

    I use a fixed data plan, so I have to keep counting each mega that was downloaded.

    When using my Android device as USB Thetering, I can't leave it connected beyond 10 seconds without downloading 100 MB (thanks LTE network / Windows s*** updates ¬_¬ )

    Going to a cybercafe is not viable. Why
    1. The internet is super slow and the machines can hardly with the OS
    2. The "powerful" cybercafe is far away. And assuming you make the effort to go, you have administrator permissions with password, that is, I can't install Unity

    So I can't download any assets without doing a thousand juggles

    Not being able to do this is such a pain in the butt, I would like to track my unity assets separate (in version control) from any one project that I am working on. I have to jump through so many hoops to get this working properly now, I don't understand why you can't simply login on the website and download these. Or at least have some lightweight asset store I can use that isn't the entirety of the engine.

    well, i don't have it fixed, after all - if i could get the html elements back, i could tell it to load the old store but, i just get a black screen, now

    SO, i cannot access my purchases - this has gotten beyond serious and has affected my work/deadline

    so, are we to just all move on to Unreal? not without a lawsuit - if Unity doesn't mind me not being able to download my purchases, i want a refund of all my purchases - thousands of $$$...

    this is just a lack of respect and something that fulfills THEIR needs but, not the PURCHASER'S NEEDS - time to call the Better Business Bureau and small claims court or whatever is appropriate - this has gotten egregious and irresponsible, i run a business

    It's ridiculous not being able to download assets via the web. Earlier today I downloaded a model pack that is really large, it took a long time, and then when the downloader unpacks the pack ready for import the editor freezes, so I could do no work. Plus I was not even going to import this pack I was hoping to set up a prototyping project. I often find myself not downloading assets for several days because I have no time. I'm also not able to be at the computer 24/7, I have places to go, meals to cook, not like I can bugger off and leave Unity running and downloading stuff. I have thousands of assets and being able to get at these via the web would vastly improve things.

    just payed for a item in unity and it shows up in my my Purchased but when I try to open it up in unity it askes for me to pay for it again

    I wouldn't mind but the asset store window in the Unity editor is soooooo slow on my computer (I have a pretty old run-down laptop see) It takes 5 minutes to just load the page to the asset I want.
    In browser however this isn't a problem and I can find all the assets I want lickity split....BUT I can't download any of them without first going back into Unity and loading each one's page again and clicking download, again on my slower laptop this is just excruciating. I've decided now to just get assets elsewhere, it's too time consuming and it's killing my productivity.
