We need FFD support in "2D Animation" in Unity. As of time of this writing (201812), "2D Animation" is still in experimental preview, and is limited to animating with bones. We need the ability to animate mesh vertices, to really bring our animations to life, and further reduce the art needed for production.
This will most probably involve a process of Sprite to Mesh conversion, with ability to refine the Mesh, then the ability to deform the Mesh vertices for animation. A logical next step, and a welcome addition would be skinning, and blend shapes , to allow for multiple deformations to be combined in impressive ways. It is up to the "2D Animation" to research and decide the best approach for this, as they'll have to integrate with the existing system.
I am placing this request early in the "2D Animation" development, as to underline the need to at least consider support for FFD during the development, so that it can be easier added if later needed (with the proper hooks and what-not).
At the least, it would be helpful to get an entry in the Unity Roadmap's "Development" or "Research" sections, to have an official stand on the acceptance, consideration or denial of this feature.
