Editor: Nested Prefabs

When nesting prefabs inside prefabs, connections to the nested prefabs are lost, and new unique prefabs are created. As a result, you can't change the old prefabs and make the changes carry over to the nested prefabs. This is a pain in the butt, and seems counterintuitive -- nesting prefabs inside prefabs is logical and intuitive but does not work. Help implement this feature! Thanks!

    I'd probably still be using Unity if it supported nested prefabs.

    I think this is a hard to solve one.

    I tried some assets from Asset store, but they do not fit the mid-size of big projects - as they seem to be laggy when you have lot's of prefabs.

    For now I'm using self written Spawner class.
    Spawner holds a reference to a Scriptable object (A). This Scriptable object has a reference to another Scriptable object (B) which stores a reference to the prefab. The reason for having the second Scriptable object is that it helps me to extend B and then just replace the reference in A without touching the Spawner itself.

    This must be quite the problem. But man would it be a game changer when it gets implemented.

    Please allocate all available resources on this feature. The absence of composition and inheritance in prefabs is THE big problem I see everywhere each time I work in Unity.

    Unity team, please make the task is high priority.
    This feature is must have in our days. Without nesting prefabs Unity engine looks like something deprecated at all.
    I'm using Unity last 4 years, and this is the biggest pain!
    Started think about change game engine :(
    But I hope you can do prefab nesting!

    What's the status on this? Nested prefabs is an obvious functionality and should be a priority!!!

    For anyone wondering what the status of this is, the video that Paul posted below was published July 10, 2017, and a Unity presenter discussing the roadmap says that they are now working on a number of prefab workflow improvements, including the ability to nest prefabs.

    However, later in the video (second link from Paul), a different presenter says:
    "Let me poop on this party a little bit. Everything you heard are plans. They're things that in our minds, we're really going to ship, but who knows, they might be the wrong thing. We're all super happy and we are working on nested prefabs, but we were also working on them before, and we made the wrong thing and we had to start over. So, take everything we did interpreted as what our intent is, the problems we are trying to solve."

    I'm assuming that if such an obvious-seeming feature like this hasn't been completed since 2009, it must not be as easy as it sounds, but man, not being able to nest prefabs is awful. Please, please, make this happen.
