All video games need a story to be able to immerse the player (Npc, Quests, Lore, Dialog, Voice Acting). It is great that we have people of all backgrounds cooperate in unity (artists, modelers, musicians, programmers), but we lack writers.
Currently to find "writer" resources in the web, that are "Royally Free" license is almost impossible. There are public domain books, but these are not easy to fit in a video game, plus they are outdated (<year 1900).
Introducing this new asset category and ensuring assets submitted ensure the category requirements would allow a) writers to obtain more exposure b) unity to profit from asset store sales c) game developers to obtain "cheap" stories without having to hire a writer.
Why i am saying this? Look at the #novels released as a game. Today, it's more than ever. Instead of being a crappy non interactive book, when placed on asset store, others will be able to built upon it, and make actual cinematics and build a living world describing the book.
Unity motto is "Unity", and writers should be part of the team ~ global unity among all team-members, not divided by greed.
