Allow users to Add Script Examples to Documentation & Add 'User Contributed Notes'

Docs & Tutorials

-

-

A lot of examples are missing C# code in them.

This feature would allow all the people eager to help - to contribute.

Result would be more centralized documentation - instead of having to search internet in order to find examples.

YES, What is missing and important is user examples in the Scripting API section down after the official explanation with up and down votes. And link to Unity video tutorial.
    [draft example: http://php.net/manual/en/language.operators.arithmetic.php]

what about making the scripting API a wiki? pages can be updated, changed, and rolled back as necessary, plus old versions can be viewed.

+10 I would gladly correct typos and add some explanative sentences to the unity docs, although that would mean they need a moderation queue for doc edits too. I imagine that all the typos that the docs have makes it hard for foreign language speakers to use automatic translation tools on it. Also, many times the docs are out of date and we should be able to flag them as such, or even edit them ourselves to add better docs. This is a win win addition, community improves the docs, docs get better, and unity team only has to approve edits. (and build the initial infrastructure, but that is a one time job.)

    Please do this.

This would definitely enhance documentation and as @LESLIE YOUNG commented it works great on the PHP site

Great idea. Much like how PHP online docs work. For example http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.operators.string.php

I've learned way more, back when, reading through user comments than only the provided examples of the docs.

This would definitely need some major moderation. Sadly with the answers community the way it is Karma is no means of judging that.

By that comment I mean votes and accepts are not being used as they should be by the community. Hardly any votes are cast, likewise with accepts.

What's more a lot of the existing documentation is pretty sparse or just plain wrong. Easily one of my biggest problems with Unity at the moment. This is a great idea.

Seems reasonable that reputable users should be allowed to contribute to fill in gaps in documentation.
