Editor: display Terrain Brush when manipulating terrain

Have a brush be displayed on the terrain when doing terrain action that show what the effected area is going to be (raising/lowering height, adding trees, painting textures, etc...). Currently it is hard to be very detailed on building your terrain when you can't exactly see where you are going ... more

Split up tablet support into a separate idea: http://feedback.unity3d.com/pages/15792-unity/suggestions/194752

The recent Torque 3D demo from the GDC showed the height edit brush visualised via the ground wireframe with falloff values represented through color and it disappeared when it was in action. Looked good.

I am not sure if people are envisioning this as a projector, but simply putting a wireframe ball (or cube, depending on brush type) at the point where mouse-meets-terrain would be worlds better for me. I'd like it to disappear while it's being painted, and return on mouse up.

I agree that this would be a very useful addition to the terrain system. I wonder if it could be as simple as orthogonally projecting a brush edge texture onto the terrain (probably not).

As a datapoint, I too have a pressure tablet and would love to see it implemented.

    +1 for pressure sensitive tablets

Terrain UI needs lot's o love: Have it remember brush settings after play or save; finer control of smaller brushes (just try to paint a person-sized path with it). Method to import own brush shapes.

As a separate (but related) issue, support for pressure-sensitive tablets would be a big plus as well.
