Physics: Upgrade PhysX
Upgrade to the current release of PhysX and expose currently missing features like cloth, particles and softbodies.
Done in Unity 3.0.
PhysX will be upgraded to 2.8.3, and some new features (layer based collision, Cloth, thick raycasts etc.) added.

Cloth and fluids, and any other complex physx feature is useless, or is very lilited as long as there is no multi threaded or better gpu hw support.

that should be support the real physic water ,which is just like physx sdk shows, the water can be spread .
and the water surface should be improved , the water should be effected when someone walking in water. no as the unity's using particals to let people see the afect . but the real physic. -

I also want to know: what is "Hand-wavy"??

I'd also like to see continuous collision detection (CCD), sweep/overlap test support and cloth might be nice too.

Yes, please do not leave out all the rest of the PhysX features like softbody, cloth and particles!
I'm currently evalluating game engines for my physics edutainment game project, and would like very much to adopt Unity...but the lack of these other crucial features is holding me back! -

I sincerely hope that "swept" collisions will be a per-object option for cases with high-speed objects. Also, ignoring collisions by layer would be essential as well.

Whats about softbody and cloth simulation in Untiy 3D 3.0?

Awesome. This is at least a little clarification about what UT meant by "physics updates". I'm hoping it's a little more detailed than this, however. (improved character controllers!)

We mainly use Unity for simulation, and really need the GPU support for Physx, chains and ropes, and cranes are all physics driven!
But as long as it is not upgraded we cannot fully use Unity!
We also use Quest3d, where we can get full hw accel on the physx engine, but I like Unity more :)
I know you have a problem, breaking old web based physics apps, but you are also holding back new programs beeing developed!
Please update !! -

I have to admit the upgrade of PhysX would allow for a lot more competitive game creation. Im not 100% on this but to date have any AAA games been release on this engine? Im sure a few might have been prototyped or are going to be in the future. These little steps behind the competition are things that stop this from happening.
I have a feeling that this isn't a priority and i respect that, its just a thought.

I'd much rather see support for bullet physics, as its unbiased. :)
Plus it's got a wonderful license...

I have a problem with (1) the attribution requirements in the license for NVIDIA's current version of the PhysX SDK (see clause #6 in the EULA) and (2) the need to notify NVIDIA before developing any commercial game or application that incorporates PhysX (see clause #3).
I'd rather not have to follow either of those requirements when publishing games based on Unity.
The EULA is here:

Be able to use Cloth in animation will be really really great for games and other apps. Thx :)

Last comment here is 5 months ago. Is there any update to the status of this ?
Dynamic cloth has been in games for more than half a decade now...
